Mission: Botanica Obscura is a space to appreciate and explore our fascination with strange and unusual plants. Our goal is to facilitate learning and a sense of community between people and plants. We are a collection of herbalists, educators, alchemists, and spiritual practitioners from a wide variety of backgrounds with a shared focus; ethnobotanical, entheogenic and poisonous plants. Plant Spirit medicine spans across cultures and time periods, and through each of our unique areas of interest, we can provide a uniquely magical perspective to the study of integrative plant medicine and plant-based magical practice. Botanica Obscura was created to help build the growing community of practitioners interested in working with these sorts of plants. The event will include presentations including topics on ethnobotany, phytochemistry, plant alchemy, Veneficium/The Poison Path, plant spirit medicine, phytognosis and more. The event will feature vendors offering a variety of exotic and rare, poisonous and carnivorous plants.

CYPRESS PILLAR HEALING ARTS

was born out of my desire to explore the liminal spaces I haunted as a child and a longing to reconnect with the enchantment of the old ways. I was born in the Deep South and grew up steeped in folklore and herbal traditions. Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains at the foot of Appalachia, I spent my childhood wandering lonely mountains looking for arrowheads and witch huts, or nosing through my Nanny’s library. My paternal grandparents were professional astrologists who informed my first forays into the occult and fostered my lifelong kinship with plants, animism, and the spirit world. Today I reside in the Blackland Prairie region of Texas, which inspired the name Prairie Fire Herbal, where I occasionally co-lead a traditional witchcraft coven, teach witchcraft classes and practice folk herbalism.”
